The "Review and Prospect of China's New Energy Industry M&A Market in the First Half of 2023" (referred to as the "Report") recently released by PwC shows that in the first half of the year, the number of M&A transactions in China's new energy industry reached 395, an increase of 7% over the same period last year. ; The total transaction amount reached 137.1 billion yuan, a decrease of 23% compared with the same period last year.
Specific to subdivided sectors, the lithium battery industry chain, infrastructure, and energy storage industries are still the most active investment sectors, with the number of transactions accounting for 27%, 26% and 15% of the total respectively. However, in terms of growth rate, compared with the same period last year, the energy storage, wind power and photovoltaic industries have experienced significant growth rates.
In the first half of the year, due to the slowdown in the growth of demand for downstream new energy vehicles and the fluctuation of upstream lithium carbonate prices, the overall market enthusiasm for the lithium battery sector has weakened, and the scale of single and overall lithium battery transactions has shrunk. The "Report" shows that in the first half of the year, the number of M&A transactions in the lithium battery industry chain was 105, a year-on-year decrease of 24%; the transaction amount was 52.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of about 50%.
In contrast, the enthusiasm for mergers and acquisitions in the energy storage industry has risen again, and emerging energy storage technologies such as sodium ions are highly favored by capital. The "Report" shows that in the first half of the year, the number of mergers and acquisitions in the energy storage industry chain was 60, an increase of about 150% year-on-year; the transaction amount reached 14.7 billion yuan, an increase of 81% year-on-year.
It is worth mentioning that although hydrogen energy transactions were active in the first half of this year, the number of transactions increased by nearly 21% year-on-year to 34, but due to the increase in the number of new companies, the capital concentration was scattered, and the investment rounds were earlier and the amount was lower. In the first half of the year, the disclosed transaction amount was 1.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of about 30%.
